Why use the
internet for our EAA 284 chapter?
The internet has come of age during the last decade and has made sharing information much faster, easier and complete than ever before. The timing is ideal since information regarding aviation has grown tremendously during this same time. In keeping with the philosophies of promoting and protecting general aviation, EAA284 can use this median to better achieve our goals.
I’m including the text below not necessarily as an outline, but as something of a demonstration document built in Microsoft Word, a popular word processing program.
Most internet uses have begun to master email, a method of
writing and sending a message to an individual or group. Several have also learned
to attach photos, graphics and drawings along with their personal descriptions.
This is an excellent use of technology, but is limited to sharing only with
those included to the emails. (group lists like EAA284’s yahoo group do have
archives)
The purpose of today’s demo is not to create web designers or mastery of any particular program, but to start with a simple way to move beyond the email and to archiving and sharing information on the world wide web. Currently our chapter has a limited but informative webpage (www.EAA284.org) that we use for a central point. Monthly announcements a little information about our chapter is included. Here’s a suggestion on how to share more knowledge and information with each other and those interested in general aviation through our EAA Chapter.
·
www.flickr.com
ç
Free Photo and graphic sharing site. (many
others)

· Microsoft Word to HTML web ready documents or online template site.

· FTP to your ISP space or to free online space
· Linking through sharing the link or posting master link on chapter site

There are thousands of other options and far better products used by many of you to create pages and graphics. This intro was only a KISS look at a quick way to share content and promote grassroots aviation to the ‘interested’ public.
Finally, I’d like to pitch a longterm project that might eventually grow into something useful. If anyone has used Wikipedia, they know the power of a community to build a reference source. One thought is that our group could eventually build an EAA284 Chapter resource based on the Wiki principle. Give it some thought … we can start with a free one or build a full version seeking help from Southwestern Ohio Chapters.
